How to worry
I wrote this in the airport as I people-watched and slurped down an Iced Oatmilk Latte. It's been a hectic week, but I wanted to get you something. I want to say more, but I gotta ship it!
Have a great weekend!
Don't be concerned about AI.
Don't be concerned about being behind.
Don't be concerned about the money.
Don't be concerned with being respected.
Don't be concerned with being appreciated.
Don't be concerned about what people think.
Don't be concerned if you measure up or not.
Don't be concerned about the short-term gains.
Don't be concerned about not achieving your heights.
Don't be concerned about not having a new car or house.
Rather...
Be concerned with loving deeply.
Be concerned with giving it all your effort.
Be concerned with your integrity and ethics.
Be concerned by living according to your values.
Be concerned about loving your neighbor as yourself.
Be concerned with the pace right for you in this season.
Be concerned about being intentional about what you do.
Be concerned with cultivating the gifts God has given you.
What are you concerned about?
Pause.
Consider that question.
Do you resonate with anything on the first list?
I know I do.
Let's look at two ways to think about concern.
Option 1: worry, anxious (list 1)
Option 2: relate to, be about (list 2)
I can easily worry about things I don't control or don't truly matter. The other day, a coach (hi, Bianca) noticed my list one script when I said, "I feel like I'm behind."
She said,
"Hm.. I would start by changing the narrative first đ
You are not "behind" (behind on what?). Instead, you are working on a schedule that works for you at this moment in time.
Bang on.
I had an automated script running in my noggin that I hadn't noticed. And I was bumming out.
Don't let a list one script run, at least for not long.
Worry helps point you to a lie where you can uncover the truth or essential values.
For example, in the script I've run before, "I'm concerned (worried) about AI."
Okay, let's explore that. What is my worried concern about AI?
The rabid rabbit trail in my brain: âI don't know what's going on with it. It's moving so fast. It's taking over. Will I have work? Will I be replaced? Will robots take over (Terminator, anybody)? Is ai going to make me its servant?â
haha
Things get crazy between the ears. I'm having fun with it, but it's about a yardstick from the truth. Raise your hand if you know what I'm saying.
Anyways, what can I concern myself about?
Ready for the reframe?
I ALLOW THIS to be an opportunity to build greater resilience and adaptability. List two.
Whether I want it or not, AI is coming. I can be concerned about its perceived downside (worry) or allow it to elevate my thinking.
Let's downgrade the monster. All those things on list one are the inflatable mind monsters we've blown up. That negative script automatically turns on, and we must turn it off.
How?
Get the awareness. Change the script. Adjust the frame.
Be concerned about building resilience and adaptability and putting the learner hat on, not "AI is going to take XYZ all the worse case scenarios."
The function of the first list is to point you to profound truth and deep intention.
What list-one kind of script are you running?
How will you change what you concern yourself about?
Okay, that's it... I'm about to board.
Much love,
C
